"A new song"

The Psalmist in a burst of joy sang, "O sing unto the Lord a new song;" and gain, "He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God." No doubt the sweet singer of Israel's concept of God had been unfolding, giving him new inspiration, and he expressed his gladness in song. And these songs have been singing for centuries in the hearts of men, cheering and giving them inspiration for the daily task, which becomes dull routine if inspiration be lacking.

One of the synonyms of the word "new" is "fresh." This suggests many things which mortals seem to need: fresh air, fresh water, fresh food, all of which are considered necessities for the maintenance of human life. But one may have all of these in abundance and still be mentally starved and spiritually famished.

Christian Science teaches that in reality we live in a spiritual universe, instead of in a material one, as the material senses so insistently testify. This being the case, how necessary to our well-being it is that we daily obtain fresh, righteous thoughts and spiritual inspiration. Divine Mind is the only source of this supply, which is made abundantly available to mankind through study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
