Nine and a half years ago I was in a desperate condition,...
Nine and a half years ago I was in a desperate condition, after being constantly under the care of physicians for three years. I had a complication of diseases. The doctors said that every organ in my body seemed to be diseased, that I had not long to live, and that I was likely to pass on at any time. They said I would never be any better without an operation, but that it would be a question of life or death; and that if I lived, which was very doubtful, I would never be well. So no hope was extended to me. I was almost blind, but one evening I picked up a daily paper and could see just the large headline of an account of a Christian Science lecture delivered in Northampton the day before. That headline recalled to my mind that about fifteen years prior to this time a niece had been sent home from the Rutland tuberculosis sanitarium to die, and that while staying at my home in this city, she had Christian Science treatment from a local practitioner, in fulfillment of a promise, given a relative, to try Christian Science after all other means had failed. She was quickly healed, so that she went to work in four weeks, and has continued successfully in business ever since, becoming a member of both The Mother Church and of a branch church.
Recalling this healing, I decided there was a chance for me, too, to be healed. So I engaged the same practitioner, and in a short time became conscious of improvement; and I grew better until I was entirely healed. I have been able ever since to do my own work joyfully, and am grateful beyond words to live and be happy. After my healing, one of the physicians inquired for me of my daughter-in-law, who told him I was well and doing my own work. He replied: "It must be a miracle."
I appreciate the privilege of attending the Christian Science services, and am grateful that God's healing power can be understood through Mrs. Eddy's discovery. I am also grateful for the loving-kindness of the practitioner through whom I was healed.—(Mrs.) Martha Jane Lizotte, Northampton, Massachusetts.
