Before taking up the study of Christian Science over...
Before taking up the study of Christian Science over thirteen years ago I was, from a material standpoint, in a very serious condition. From early childhood I had suffered from ear trouble. When this developed, a physician advised my parents to do nothing, as in all probability I would outgrow it. However, instead of getting better the reverse took place. I grew steadily worse until my hearing was seriously affected. My ears continuously discharged, the ear drums became perforated, and I was almost constantly in pain. My hearing at last became so defective that I dreaded meeting people, as I was always in fear of not being able to hear a conversation when directed to me.
When I first started attending Christian Science services it seemed necessary for me to go very early, so that I might be sure of getting one of the front seats, in order to hear the service; but I can now hear readily from any part of the building. I could not hear a clock ticking in the same room with me; and I recall the joy it gave me when I first heard a clock in my home. I realized then that infinite Mind was indeed leading me to my birthright of perfect hearing. The condition was so aggravated at the time I started to study Christian Science, that doctors advised that the only relief I might hope for was through an operation, and that I would ultimately have to undergo this.
When things seemed at their darkest, I was led through a friend to Christian Science. My first healing in Science was for another ailment, for which I had undergone an operation some months previous. The operation had not proved successful, and I had been doctoring to build up strength to undergo the ordeal again when Christian Science made this entirely unnecessary. My healing of this trouble was instantaneous; and I was so grateful that it seemed as if I were living altogether in a sense of gratitude. The healing of my ears, which I seemed to desire the most, was longer in coming. It seemed to come only as I attained spiritual understanding. I discarded all material aid as soon as I turned to Christian Science, and it was not long before the pain and the discharge from the ears ceased. My hearing gradually improved until one Sunday morning, at a service, the blessing of normal hearing was finally restored to me. I was also a sufferer from chronic stomach trouble for many years, the acute stages being exceedingly painful. This, too, was quite slow to yield; and only constant study and application of the truth, and the help of a loving and dear practitioner, carried me to final and complete victory over this trouble.
