The Children

Lo ! the children, joyous children,
Happy, buoyant, sweet, and free!
Hearts receptive to his teaching:
Jesus said, Bring them to me.

How these children, blessed children,
Love the truth which makes them free!
How they joy in Love's revealing,
And His image clearly see!

Oh, may we, with hearts receptive,
Set aside material cause,
Knowing only our true being,
Governed by the eternal laws.

May we know, with childlike spirit,
All the vastness of God's love;
Know His presence—guiding presence—
And His care, protective, prove.

Let the children, loving children,
Teach us many a lesson true;
Then the burdens will be lifted—
Life become divinely new.

Let us join, with gladsome cadence,
In the songs the children sing;
Grateful songs of heartfelt gladness,
Father-Mother God, we bring!

For Thy love is our protecting;
In Thy truth is our defense;
And the light of Thy directing
Triumphs o'er the wrongs of sense.

In the covert of Thy presence
Keep us safe from earth's alarms.
Love Thou art, o'er all o'erbrooding,
Underneath the eternal arms!
