Among the Churches
Current Notes
Virginia, Minnesota (First Church).—Construction of a new church that can better meet their needs was begun Monday for members of the congregation of First Church of Christ, Scientist, on a site between Sixth and Seventh Streets, South, and Fifth Avenue. The new structure will be a stucco building and of bungalow type. According to the plans an auditorium seating one hundred and twenty-six persons will be included in the building and a Reading Room will be built in connection.—Virginia Daily Enterprises.
West Palm Beach, Florida (First Church).—Thursday morning, just as the sun cast its first beams of light across the sea and lake, there was held an impressive service, carrying with it a deep and profound sense of its spiritual significance, which marked the quiet ceremony of laying the corner stone of First Church of Christ, Scientist, West Palm Beach. There were assembled at the new church, which is now in course of construction at Flagler Boulevard and Okeechobee Road, members of the church, who in a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation took part in this simple ceremony. The white marble stone bore the inscription, " 'Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.' Organized 1905; Erected 1928." The edifice is of Greek architectural design, constructed of concrete and steel, with walls of reconstructed stone backed by brick and tile, making a building ornate and substantial. The location, overlooking Lake Worth and its palm-fringed shores, is one of the most desirable sites in the city. The structure, when completed, will be one of the most beautiful buildings in southern Florida.—Palm Beach Times.
