About seven years ago I was suffering with what doctors said was an incurable heart disease. At the same time many other ailments, such as goiter, tonsillitis, and an inflammation in the frontal bones, were pronounced serious, and I was told that I was in need of an opeation as soon as I gained strength. Besides these, there were extreme depression and fear and loneliness.
I had been reading the Christian Science Lesson-Sermons in a half-hearted way, because I thought Christian Science logical; but as I was just beginning I did not realize that I could have absent treatment. While I was wondering how long I had to live, and too despondent to make an effort in any way, a God-directed thought prompted me to write to my sister to ask if it were possible to have absent treatment. Treatment was started at once, and immediately I became conscious that many little worries were disappearing and of a slow but steady improvement. One year afterwards, when living in a climate that had been forbidden me and, of course, not having had any of the operations advised, I had occasion to be examined by a doctor, who pronounced me in very good health and said nothing was wrong with my heart.
Needless to say, after this great proof of Christian Science healing the Lesson-Sermons were no longer read in a half-hearted way. And now I am thankful for what seemed a very grateful experience, as it was the cause of my turning to Christian Science whole-heartedly and for every need. I shall always feel deep gratitude to the practitioner who so lovingly helped me. And I am also very grateful to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" has made clear that real healing is spiritual and is ever present for us all and for every need.
