Words fail me to express my gratitude for Christian Science

Words fail me to express my gratitude for Christian Science. This beautiful teaching was brought to me by my son, who had suffered from bronchial asthma for over fourteen years. My husband and I had always prayed for him to be healed of this complaint, but as our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 182 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Mortals entreat the divine Mind to heal the sick, and forthwith shut out the aid of Mind by using material means, thus working against themselves and their prayers and denying man's God-given ability to demonstrate Mind's sacred power." We had so many "other gods" that the omnipotence of the one God seemed beyond our comprehension. Our doctor was very kind at all times, and did everything he possibly could, but to no purpose, his final verdict being that the boy would never be in a fit state of health to earn his own living.

We were in despair, the boy being very ill, when the doctor advised that he be taken away from the country place where we lived to a smoky town for possible benefit. His father took him to our relatives in a north of England industrial town. These relatives had meanwhile found Christian Science, and with their help and that of a loving practitioner my son was able to return home alone in a week's time healed. About ten years have passed and the healing remains perfect, my son having worked regularly on the railroad line for practically the whole of this period.

Christian Science has been to us the "pearl of great price," and I can never feel that I am grateful enough for it. At the time of his healing my son brought me two copies of the Christian Science Sentinel which I read and reread, and then sent for more. I next purchased Science and Health and began to study the Lesson-Sermon daily in the Christian Science Quarterly. Life now began anew for me as it had done for my son. The benefits I have received are too numerous to tell, but I should like to mention a few of them. While studying the Lesson-Sermon I was healed of constipation. I began to learn to shut out wrong thinking, to love more, and to see only the manifestation of good. My daughter lost her handbag and purse containing money. I forthwith declared the truth that there is no loss in Mind, and that all God's children are honest. In a fortnight the bag and purse with all they contained were returned intact. I had a wonderful healing of hatred while trying to understand and to follow Jesus' teaching in his Sermon on the Mount, to "love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." The almightiness of divine Love was beautifully proved to me in this experience, the wrong thought being completely destroyed by the next day. About four years ago I had what seemed to be serious heart trouble combined with a nervous breakdown; but with the loving help of Christian Science friends and a practitioner I was perfectly healed of this trouble and am now stronger than I have ever been.
