[Written for the Sentinel]

Simplicity

Wouldst know Truth's sacred lore?
With simple, honest thought,
At understanding's door,
Seek to be taught.

Beware the subtle lie
That good eludes man's sight;
'T is mortal sense would try
To quench the light.

Christ's healing word so plain,
The eager children greet.
Youth speeds to rout all pain
On faith-winged feet.

In Mind's great plan that brings
Surcease from human woe,
The true, eternal things
Wait high and low.

Impartial shines God's grace;
Life's fountain flows for all;
The meek behold His face,
Heeding Love's call.

Childlike simplicity
Must unlock wisdom's store;
Patient humility
Learns more and more.
