It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God for all that Christian Science is doing for mankind that I write this testimony.
When I first investigated Christian Science, it was not for physical healing: I was seeking a religion which makes practical the teachings of the Bible. A few months previous to this my mother had passed on, and a great sense of grief and loss caused me to realize keenly that I had no God to whom I could turn, although I had been a Bible student from childhood. Two weeks before this sense of separation I had ceased to pray, as I then understood prayer; for my prayers did not appear to be answered. But after taking up the study of Christian Science, and while reading the chapter on Prayer in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was very sure I had found what I had long and earnestly searched for—that I had found God; and through the reading I learned how to pray understandingly. I am realizing in a small degree the truth of the statement in Deuteronomy, "The Lord he is God; there is none else beside him." After reading the textbook for two weeks I was healed of constipation, for which I had used many different material remedies since childhood. Sorrow, sleeplessness, catarrh, and certain monor ailments disappeared while I was eagerly studying to gain an understanding of God and man, and how to apply the truth to meet the many problems which seemed to confront me.
I have had many proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science in healing physical ailments, in meeting the need of position and employment, and in restoring harmony where discord in many different phases seemed to claim reality. Christian Science found for me a suitable place and occupation. Twelve years ago I was living with a brother in another state, and there sought the aid of a practitioner that I might find a place and vocation. Shortly afterward a night letter was received from this city asking me to come at once to help in a line of work I had never for an instant thought of as a means of self-support. That was over twelve years ago, and I have been very happy in the work ever since.
