Will you kindly permit me to state the fact that the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church held in Boston last June, recorded greater growth and prosperity in every branch of the activities of the Christian Science church, including the healing of the sick and the reforming of the sinner, than ever before in its history. Touching the allegation that Christian Science "is a failure," in that it does not preach the gospel to the poor, it will be of interest to your readers to hear that Christian Science literature has been gratefully received and appreciated for years by the lightermen and sailors along the wharf in Bridgetown. Continual application for more, coupled with gratifying results in improved individual moral conditions, would point to its helpfulness and success.
The Christian Science church is earnestly endeavoring to obey the Master's commands to preach the gospel and to heal the sick; and churches of other denominations are awakening, and in some instances have acknowledged their gratitude to Christian Science for bringing to remembrance the latter command. The Hon. C. C. Bonney, president of the World's Congress Auxiliary (Parliament of Religions), in his remarks before that body, said: "No more striking manifestation of the interposition of divine Providence in human affairs has come in recent years, than that shown in the raising up of the body of people known as Christian Scientists, who are called to declare the real harmony between religion and Science, and to restore the waning faith of many in the verities of the sacred Scriptures." (See Miscellaneous Writings, p. 312.)
