Over eleven years ago I first went to a Christian Science Reading Room, not because I believed in healing by spiritual means, but because I was in great need of comfort. Life, as I seemed to be living it at that time, did not appear to be worth while. The denomination to which I had faithfully adhered taught me that healing such as Jesus accomplished belonged only to his time and that of his apostles. That I accepted; but the ritual, to which I had been accustomed, had never got at the root of my needs. I had never had a complete proof that there is a God. Such promises in the Bible, as those contained in John, fourteenth chapter, thirteenth and fourteenth verses, forced me to search everywhere for additional light on the teachings of Jesus. Those promises stated that we would receive answers to our prayers, if we prayed aright.

When I was handed the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I read the first two chapters. The one entitled "Prayer" was such a revelation to me that I considered it God's answer to my prayerful pleadings to Him. I laid the textbook beside my Bible, and side by side I continually studied both books and pondered the correlative passages. I was soon convinced of the oneness of the teachings of Jesus with those of Mrs. Eddy.

Some time after this I suffered from a pain in my cheek. I brought out my books and read from the fifth chapter of the first epistle of John, when suddenly I became conscious of a power which I can only describe as the power of Love, a power superior to anything I had ever before known. I perceived at once that pain, as well as hate, was an utter impossibility in divine Love or its reflection, man. From the healing that ensued I realized that Jesus in his healing ministry was conscious of a happiness such as can be understood by us only through the experience of spiritual healing, and the revelation that comes with it.
