The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Durban, South Africa (First Church).

Lecturer: Algernon Hervey Bathurst; introduced by Miss Margaret H. Anderson, who said:—

Christian Science is a message filled not only with spiritual hope and faith, but with the promise of fulfillment. Many years ago Christian Science came into my life and gave me a satisfying answer to all my questions. Since then I have witnessed many proofs of the healing power of this great new-old truth, which not alone brings relief from suffering, but helps us out of all our human difficulties and problems. Christian Science promises a complete salvation, bringing to us a sense of spiritual peace and unity with God. You will not be asked merely to believe, but encouraged to prove for yourselves what Christian Science can do for you. This lecture is not given in any spirit of controversy, but with the sincere desire that the sick may be healed and the sorrowing comforted—in the words of the prophet Isaiah, that they may receive "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."
