Mere words will never be adequate to express my gratitude...
Mere words will never be adequate to express my gratitude for Mrs. Eddy's obedience to the commands, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel," "Heal the sick," and for her establishing of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship to proclaim this gospel, as it was through a lecture that Christian Science found me, a wanderer tossed to and fro between belief and doubt, between sincere desire to know God and agnosticism. This had been my problem throughout my whole life, until about twelve years ago when, at the Christian Science lecture, it was explained what God really is. Since taking up this beautiful study, many blessings of an uplifting nature have come to me, as well as physical healings and financial demonstrations, although I came into Christian Science only to know more about God.
As stated above, many blessings have come to me and mine—almost too many to enumerate; but I will mention a few which seem to stand out among the others. My eldest son was wonderfully protected during the World War; another son has been completely healed of paralysis of the throat and mastoiditis. I myself have been relieved of the belief that a truss was necessary, after wearing one for thirty-five years. I have also overcome the smoking habit, and been relieved of a weak heart and of being short-winded. The heart trouble was overcome at a Christian Science lecture, when the lecturer said, "He 'forgiveth all thine iniquities;' He 'healeth all thy diseases.'" The meaning of this came to me so forcibly that not another moment was spent in entertaining this falsity.
I also feel deeply grateful when I listen to the testimonies of healing given at the Wednesday evening meetings, or read them in the Journal and Sentinel; and to know that God is not a "respecter of persons" fills me with joy: all of these blessings are for all of us, and not for a chosen few.
