"I am come that they might have life, and that they...
"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." These well-known words of the Master express what the truth, as Jesus taught it and as it has been explained in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, has done to change my life. My need when I first became interested in Christian Science seemed to be of an entirely physical nature; but as the leaven of this new understanding started to work in my consciousness, I began to see that my physical suffering was really of a mental nature, being caused by entertaining constantly such unhappy mental qualities as fear, doubt, anxiety, self-pity, impatience, and much criticism. Through constant reading of our textbook and Mrs. Eddy's other writings, and the help of a practitioner, my character was gradually transformed, and I began to manifest in every way a better sense of life. I laid aside almost at once glasses which had been worn for reading and sewing. Tonsillitis, from which I seemed to be a constant sufferer, disappeared as I refused to manifest irritability. My life was no longer limited and dominated by a material outlining which for so many years had been restricting my activities. It is impossible to express in words what Christian Science has done for me. I feel that without this understanding I should not be in the world now, as recognition of the fact that God is my Life was the means of saving me when, after an interval of seven days following a severe operation, mortal mind argued that death was the only way of relief from extreme suffering.
I find that Christian Science never fails when correctly applied, and when we are willing to be honest with ourselves and look within our thinking to cast out whatever is unlike the perfect model. I have had numerous physical healings, and my disposition is being completely transformed; but there is still much work to be done. I rejoice in knowing that the present is better than the past; that God gives me sufficient understanding to meet to-day's need; and that He will take care of to-morrow. I am deeply grateful for the Christian Science church and for the many channels through which its message of salvation is reaching the world to-day; and I desire above all things to be worthy of my membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.—(Mrs.)Florene Marcus Burnham, New York, New York.
