I came to the study of Christian Science about fourteen...

I came to the study of Christian Science about fourteen years ago for the healing of my first boy baby, who had been given up by our physicians. He was suffering from bowel complaint supposed to be hereditary and common to little children. He could not walk, and seemed to be starving on a strict diet. My sister was studying Christian Science at this time and asked me to try the treatment for him. So, after reading in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy a few days, I decided to take him to a friend who was a Scientist. She treated him in her home for a week or so, and he came home well and happy, and I was as happy as he. He has remained quite strong and healthy ever since, having had only one dose of medicine in this time; and then he did not retain it.

Since that time I have battled with prejudice, condemnation, and opposition, and at last find myself reaping a higher understanding of the better life to be loved and lived here and now. We have five children. Four of them are members of the Christian Science Sunday School; and although my husband is not a Scientist, he offers no opposition, and is more appreciative of Science than ever before. Some time ago I began to experience nervous troubles, and to my sense the symptoms were alarming. I could scarcely walk, and my heart gave me great uneasiness. I asked for help from a practitioner and felt some relief however, I continued to suffer, so I called still Again I was helped, but as the trouble kept up I called still another practitioner. In a few treatments I gradually recovered. The truth has shown me the way to watch, work, and pray, and how to come out of worry; for when we worry, we are leaving God out of our lives and hearts. I should like here to quote the lines on page 468 of Science and Health, included in "the scientific statement of being": "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
