An evangelist, as quoted in a recent issue of the Tribune, assails Christian Science, calling it "the biggest bunk on earth." About fifty years ago Mary Baker Eddy gave to the world Christian Science as this truth had come to her through revelation and demonstration. By actual test in countless instances, Christian Science has proved itself to be the Comforter, "even the Spirit of truth," which Christ Jesus had promised to the world. In the last analysis, all religions must be judged upon their merits, and it is a fact that no religion since the early Christian era has healed the sick, comforted the sorrowing, and reformed the sinner, as has Christian Science. And Christian Science is accomplishing these marvels by spiritual means, as Christ Jesus himself did, and declared that his true followers could and must do. One may call Christian Science "bunk," "Hindoo philosophy," "mental suggestion," or whatever one may choose; yet the fact remains that Christian Science is patiently, tenderly, and lovingly following the command of the Saviour of the world, Christ Jesus, who said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" and, "These signs shall follow them that believe." No religion since the early Christian era has equaled Christian Science in growth. In fact, Christian Science has encircled the globe. This growth has not been the outcome of rantings, or the denunciation of others, but has resulted from its ability to meet humanity's need here and now. On page 111 of her "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says, "I love the orthodox church; and, in time, that church will love Christian Science."
