"To-day is big with blessings"

"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." So begins the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These words, since first they were penned, have caused many to pause and ponder deeply.

We spend much time in planning and preparation for our future activities, when we would benefit much more if we paused to make the most of our present opportunities, right in the place or position we happen to occupy at the moment.

One who at a certain time found himself about to be out of a position, due to changes over which he had no control, sought long and earnestly, before the appointed time came for leaving the old work, to find something for which he was fitted, and which commanded a salary sufficient to take care of himself and his family. But nothing presented itself in any line that seemed at all adequate. Temporary work was, however, offered him; so on the day after leaving his old position, he gratefully and humbly began with a very modest salary at the temporary work, resolving to make the most of any opportunity that might present itself for advancement, and in any case to do the work at hand in the best manner possible. In this humble but grateful mental state he worked the first half-day in the new position. It was a Saturday, and the office closed at noon. In the afternoon, while he was busy in the garden at his home, a telephone call came from an acquaintance who was secretary of a large corporation. An appointment was made for that evening, and at the interview arrangements were made to begin work the following Monday morning in a position for which the applicant was especially well fitted, and at a salary adequate for his needs.
