One of the many ills from which I have been healed through Christian Science is a gnawing pain in my right leg. It caused great suffering during many years. Different physicians tried to cure me; but instead of being healed, the pain grew worse and worse, and gradually spread all over the right side of my body. At that time, the blessed book by Mrs. Eddy, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," came into our home. After I had read it for some days, the pain left me. This occurred twenty years ago. Recently I awoke during the night with the same pain in my other leg. At first it frightened me, but not longer than one moment; for these words from Science and Health (p. 392) came to me: "Stand porter at the door of thought." After this "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468) came gently to my consciousness; and then what Mrs. Eddy writes in the chapter on Prayer (p. 16): "Only as we rise above all material sensuousness and sin, can we reach the heaven-born aspiration and spiritual consciousness, which is indicated in the Lord's Prayer and which instantaneously heals the sick." The healing influence of the truth of these words I experienced directly. I prayed the Lord's Prayer; and at the same moment the error disappeared, and I fell asleep again. I was cured.
