Christmas Thoughts

LET us rejoice at this Christmas season because we know that the Christ, Truth, which Jesus lived to teach and demonstrate, is ever present, each and every day of the year, and that Christian Scientists can give of this healing truth hourly, daily, continually, wherever they may be, by reflecting the God-given qualities of kindness, charity, generosity, tolerance, gentleness, honesty, patience—in fact every quality that rightfully belongs to man as God's perfect image and likeness. Let us also rejoice and be glad that we are learning through Christian Science that God is infinite good, always present and all-powerful, ever ready to bless and comfort those who are ready and willing to open the door of their consciousness and let in the light of His goodness and love.

Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 260), "In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal,—for the things of Spirit, not of matter." It surely is our privilege to be grateful that we are gradually gaining, through the study of the Bible and our Leader's writings, what is meant by the imperishable things of Spirit, God, good; that we are learning of the qualities of divine Mind, of such qualities as contentment, peace, happiness, and joy, which are substantial, true, real, and eternal, and which come from God, sustaining man under every circumstance, and which cannot be taken away. The true Christmas spirit must, therefore, be one of gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the unfoldment of the Christ, Truth, to human consciousness. Even though our understanding may seem small, if we earnestly strive to put into practice that which we already have gained, we certainly shall be rewarded with the greater gift of true spiritual understanding. The Bible says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

The true Christian Scientist thanks God each day for the realization of his true relationship to God, and for the knowledge gained through Christian Science that only as he strives to entertain good and righteous thinking in his everyday experiences is he giving to the world that true gift which is the only real.
