Seventeen years ago, when I received my first knowledge...
Seventeen years ago, when I received my first knowledge of Christian Science, I was suffering from extreme melancholia and physical troubles from which physicians said there was no permanent relief. Through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and with the patient help of practitioners, the healing is complete, and I am well and happy. My whole life has been changed through Christian Science.
At one time it would have seemed impossible to me to go to a country where apparently there are no other students of Christian Science, no practitioners; but step by step I am growing in the knowledge that God is truly omnipresent, that there is no place where God is not. He is here, ever available, guarding and guiding. We read in Jeremiah: "Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord." In Science and Health (p. 559) Mrs. Eddy writes: "The still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.' It is heard in the desert and dark places of fear." These words are a great comfort; and also the thought that Truth is true, that we do not have to make it true. The words of a loving practitioner, "Remember that false belief has no location," have many times shown me the unreality of physical claims; and thus harmony has been revealed.
We have had many healings, both physical and financial. While in the United States, our son aged five appeared to be quite ill, and in order to comply with the state law a physician was asked to diagnose the case. He said it was a very severe case of measles; but he gave no advice or remedies, as he knew we wanted Science help. The child was well in one day, and all evidence of the malady disappeared in three days.
