While making my home with Christian Scientists in 1907,...
While making my home with Christian Scientists in 1907, one July afternoon I was overcome by a sunstroke. These friends asked me if I wanted a physician or a Christian Science practitioner. Although I was feeling so ill, I knew that if I had a physician he would naturally find everything wrong, having been trained to look entirely to matter for evidence; so I consented to have a practitioner. This was about five o'clock in the afternoon. It is with profound gratitude I can tell of my instantaneous healing, for at six o'clock I was able to eat a hearty supper. The dear practitioner visited me at eight o'clock that evening and talked with me about God. Although I understood only dimly what she said, nevertheless the seed was sown. I have had since then many other healings, some from very serious difficulties.
While I was riding horseback in 1915, the animal ran away and my knee scraped against a tree, throwing me into a ditch. My face was badly cut and other bruises were sustained. The latter were healed in a few days. When I got back to the hotel where I was stopping, I immediately called up a practitioner. The knee became quite stiff and swollen, and I was very fearful; but I am happy to state that with the loving help of the practitioner I did not lose a day's work, and within two weeks I was entirely well.
While hearing a noonday lecture I was absolutely healed of the smoking habit. This old habit had been holding on and on, but, thank God, I am now free. In business the understanding of this truth is helping me to know that right cannot fail.
