The report of an address by the superintendent of Lutheran schools in Iowa, printed in a recent issue of the Telegraph-Herald, expressed the speaker's opinion regarding the character of Bible teaching which might be expected from adherents of various religions. Of Christian Scientists he is said to have declared that instead of teaching from the King James Version of the Bible they would use the "Book of Eddy, the Key to the Scriptures." Now, not only has no such book ever been written or published, but Christian Scientists study and teach from the selfsame version of the Bible as our Lutheran friend spoke of as serving all Protestantism. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, wrote the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," but that volume was neither intended to supplant the Bible, nor have Christian Scientists ever so considered it. On the contrary, the book has proved to be a veritable "Key" to the Scriptures by opening up to its millions of students realities of which they had not before conceived.

Therefore, when the lecturer stated that Christian Scientists teach "there is nothing real, it is all imagination," he voiced an entirely incorrect conception of that which Christian Science affords its adherents. Instead of presenting to the inquirer any thought of hopeless unreality concerning that which is real, the teaching of Christian Science unfolds the eternal reality of all true being to him, as may be observed from the following statement on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. . . . Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness." This declaration of the infinitude and allness of divine Mind, God, strictly corroborates the truths found in the King James Version of the Bible, upon which the Christian Science religion is based. Furthermore, it confirms the Bible record of man's creation in the image and likeness of God, which assures him of the reality and eternality of his being.
