The Mission of Christian Science

STUDENTS of Christian Science often find it helpful to talk with one another about the wonderful results gained through the study and practice of Christian Science. There can be no question, however, but that the very best results are won from the earnest study of the Scriptures and of our revered Leader's inspired writings. In fact, the statements passed by one student of Christian Science to another should be tested in this way; for thereby greater accuracy of statement, as well as a clearer understanding, is gained.

Truth's leadings are always towards the things of Spirit; they come to human consciousness, awakening it spiritually. In human experience Truth destroys the errors of false material sense, bringing to light the kingdom of God, and man in His spiritual likeness. Full deliverance from human falsities is not realized in a day. Mortals will continue to use material food, live in houses as they do now, and do business possibly for a considerable time to come. But Truth's advent in human consciousness destroys fear, hate, sin, dishonesty, selfishness; for such errors have no place in God, or in man as the likeness of God. Human consciousness, as it is freed from these shadows of materialism, sees more clearly than before the thing that is right to do along every line of human endeavor. To bring to light the kingdom of God and the truth about man in His likeness is the mission of Christian Science. Christian Science helps the business-man by freeing him from the stupefying beliefs and fears which seem to be associated with his human experience, but which have no place in man's real existence as the offspring of the divine Mind. The Christian Scientist's business, and his only business, is to bear witness to the truth in his relationships with his fellow-men. Thought is delivered from materialism through the practice of honest, unselfish, obedient, right thinking. His thought being free, the human business with which he is identified shows the fruits of his freedom in the harmony that obedient right thinking and right doing confer.

There is no way in which real prosperity can be attained except through reliance upon Truth, as understood in Christian Science. This being admitted, a clear understanding of Truth is the first need in human experience. Without it, not a single step can be taken with the sense of safety which associated with the knowledge one has of being about the Father's business.
