For fourteen years I suffered very severely, and often would not close my eyes for as many as three consecutive nights and days. I spent days at a time in bed, and could not stand on my feet except for a very few minutes. I could not walk any distance without suffering. I tried to have a surgical operation, but while I was under the influence of the anesthetic, and after the incision had been made, the doctors found I was not able to undergo the operation. I tried different doctors, chiropractors, and osteopaths, always giving each a long trial of several months. I had also tried different kinds of faith cures, but to no avail. I would have extreme headaches if I read or even looked around in the room. I had worn glasses since I was a child of ten years; indeed, for about ninteen years. My eyes had been treated by different doctors and fitted with glasses by different specialists. They insisted that I would always have to wear them, and that I should never go an hour in the day without them.

I well remember, when I was in bed after the doctors had tried to operate, that my dear grandmother asked me if I would promise God, if He would heal me, that I would serve Him in any way He wished, as we felt then that my sickness was sent for some good purpose. My devout mother would often read to me from the Bible of Jesus' healings, and told me that it was possible "now" for God to heal, and that I could be healed. Finally Christian Science was presented to me by friends, who said that Christian Science taught that God healed now as He did when Jesus was here, and that it was just as much of a command to heal the sick as it was to preach the gospel. I began treatment in a short time, and was healed of irritation of the bladder; but the old troubles did not give way until later. It seemed that I had to work out my own problem. I was healed gradually, as I gained an understanding of God in Christian Science. I, however, acknowledge with gratitude the fact that upon several occasions I have received marvelous instantaneous help through the work of practitioners. I can sincerely say that I am well now, and in perfect health. But that for which I am most grateful is the spiritual uplift I have received through the study of Christian Science.

Also, I have not worn glasses for several years. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 144), "If Mind is foremost and superior, let us rely upon Mind, which needs no cooperation from lower powers, even if these so-called powers are real." I realized that God is more powerful than glasses.
