May we assure your correspondent, who writes under the caption of Christian Science, in your recent issue, that it is his erroneous concept of the teachings of Christian Science which is at fault, and not the teachings themselves. In contrast with his not very kindly references to Mrs. Eddy, may we quote from an article by the Rev. James Black, M.A., D.D., St. George's, Edinburgh, in a recent religious magazine? "I admire Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, in deep ways," Dr. Black writes, "and I frankly consider her one of the most remarkable people in religious history. She has founded a great church; she has left her mark for good on countless lives; indeed she has affected our generation more than any other single man or woman. Most of all, her church and her system of thought and practice must certainly be reckoned with."

The teachings of Christian Science are very simple; but, like many other critics with firmly established religious views, your correspondent has fallen into the mistake of approaching them without sufficiently realizing their importance. On page 21 of her work, "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy writes, "As the ages advance in spirituality, Christian Science will be seen to depart from the trend of other Christian denominations in no wise except by increase of spirituality."
