With light and love coming to me day by day through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and the other writings of Mary Baker Eddy, our dear Leader, and also through our various helpful periodicals, published by The Christian Science Publishing Society, it is with a deep sense of gratitude I give my testimony, hoping that others may thereby be benefited.

During the latter part of the year 1907, while in the profession of trained nurse, I was living in New York with a dear friend who had tried materia medica and various other healing methods without receiving any benefit whatsoever. The attending physician, who had branded the case as hopeless, proposed that we try Christian Science.

Certainly "man's extremity is God's opportunity;" and we were wonderfully cared for in finding a most loving practitioner through a friend who came unexpectedly from a distance to spend a few days with us, and who had recently become interested in Christian Science. It proved to be our opportunity to investigate what Christian Science had to offer; so the following morning we called at the office of this practitioner. Needless to say, what Christian Science had to offer sounded extremely good to us. The help my friend obtained within a few days, after three years of distressing conditions, caused me to pay more than passing attention. In thinking over the situation, I was greatly impressed with the fact that Christian Science treatment could so quickly relieve one from suffering, and I wondered what all my years of training as a nurse amounted to. One day, while sitting in the waiting room of the office of this practitioner, I picked up "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy, and upon opening it read some of the chapter entitled "One Cause and Effect," the statements of which impressed me greatly. I asked for the privilege of taking the book home, and that evening read and reread the chapter. On returning the book the following morning I said, "All I have been looking for for years is in Christian Science, and I must know more about the fundamentals of its teachings."
