When disappointed with religion, having reached the point of seriously considering the giving up of my church connection (I was a member of the Established Church of Scotland), Christian Science found me. At that time I was given a Christian Science Sentinel by a friend. At first I was rather skeptical and thought Christian Science was one of the many isms that had appeared; but after obtaining the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and beginning to study it, I soon found that it was something very far from anything I had ever read. I attended the Christian Science church in this city and was impressed with the simplicity of the services. I now feel grateful for Christian Science and all its activities. Not that the path has always been a smooth one, for, as Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 540), "The muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream."

Christian Science has healed me of the tobacco habit, of moderate drinking, and of many undesirable traits of character; also of a growth on my back. What I am most grateful for is that, through the study of the textbook, God and man in His image and likeness have been revealed, and with this knowledge we can love our neighbor as ourselves.

I am grateful to God, our Father-Mother; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her goodness, her exalted thought, and her purity, which enabled her to be the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, which is blessing all mankind, and which the world is slowly but surely acknowledging. I am indeed grateful for all the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science.—James Johnston, Edinburgh, Scotland.
