It is my duty and privilege to express a little of my...
It is my duty and privilege to express a little of my gratitude for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science during the past eighteen years. One healing for which I am especially grateful occurred about three years ago. I had never been accustomed to illness except of short duration. This illness, like some dreams we have, did seem very real. Help was asked for and given by a loving Christian Science practitioner. I had no strength to go about my work, and felt down and out mentally; my neck, feet, ankles, and eyes were badly swollen. One trouble seemed to heap upon another. Many friends expressed the opinion that I should see a doctor at once, and this I did to still their fear. After careful examination he said it was goiter in its most serious form, and told my sister there was little hope of my recovery. He said I must stay in bed and, when able, arrange for an X-ray examination. This, however, I never did. He also stated that I might pass away at any moment. I was very nervous and much reduced in weight.
I am thankful to say that during this illness I never spent one whole day in bed. I know this was due to the help I was receiving from the practitioner and those of my immediate family. I am grateful for the patience and love shown me. They helped me to see man as the image and likeness of God, good, in spite of the mist of material beliefs. I remember the practitioner asking me if I believed in ghosts. I said, "No," as I knew there were no such things. She told me sickness and sin were no more real than ghosts, and asked me to study page 352 in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I did so, and found it very helpful. I am now well and strong, and have proved that God never fails, that He is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever;" and it is through the practitioner's clear realization of God's presence and power that I am here to-day to do my little to help all humanity.
I am grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy for this knowledge of the truth that does set us free, for the freedom Christ Jesus gave and taught when on the earth.—(Miss) Elizabeth J. Baird, Dundonald, County Down, Ireland.
