I am grateful for the small understanding I have of Christian Science

I am grateful for the small understanding I have of Christian Science. The study grows more beautiful each day, and I should like to add my testimony to those of other earnest students, knowing that God blesses all right efforts and that light may go out to others having similar difficulties.

Our boy, when four years old, was playing in the kitchen. He was raising and lowering a pail of tools, nails, bolts, and so on from the floor to the clothes line by means of a rope tied to the pail, which passed over a pulley attached to the line. The kitchen was warm, and he was very busy. After playing for a considerable time, he came to me and said, "Mother, my nose is bleeding." Fear came upon me immediately. However, I picked him up and tried to treat him as taught in Christian Science. After a time I realized I must have help. I was alone in the house at the time, with no telephone. The nearest Christian Scientist I knew of was in a store two blocks away, but I decided I must go to her. Putting the child in a big chair and telling him I would hurry for help, I ran every step of the way with fear stalking close at my side. The practitioner in a loving voice assured me she would take up work immediately and was sure all would be well, and requested me to read the twenty-third psalm and to trust in Love. So back I ran. The child was very pale and the bleeding continued. I held him, repeating the twenty-third psalm over and over, for I knew it by heart. Then I tried to sing "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14, by Mary Baker Eddy), a hymn he is very fond of, and in a few moments the little voice joined in! Surely my heart rejoiced, for I knew the healing was taking place! A very short time afterwards he slid off my lap to his feet and at the same instant the healthy color flooded his face, his eyes sparkled, and he said, "Mother, it's stopped bleeding; I'm going back to my play." Here was another test! Error said, No! don't play at that again; just sit down quietly. But Truth said, God is All; the healing work is done; fear not. So he went back and played until he tired of his game. The healing work was done. "God's promises are kept." I might add that the child is now over seven years old.

A short time ago I was called upon to make a somewhat similar demonstration. The boy was chopping a piece of wood when a piece flew up and struck his nose. At the sight of him his sister ran away crying; but this time I am grateful to say I could do the work myself, and after five or ten minutes the bleeding stopped. There was no swelling, and no complaint of soreness afterwards.
