In your recent issue you published an extract from a letter to the Prime Minister in connection with the Trades Union Political Levy Bill. In the last paragraph the writer is quoted as having written, "The application of Christian Science methods, which any one may apply to himself, but not to his family, or his country, has been without result." What exactly the writer means by "Christian Science methods" is not quite clear, but one may infer that he has fallen into the mistake of thinking that Christian Scientists simply declare that all is good and shut their eyes to evil. This is not so, for the only true method of applying Christian Science is to "overcome evil with good." In Christian Science the term "God" is taken as synonymous with infinite spiritual good. A fuller understanding of spiritual good, turning thought from the lusts of the flesh, has been proved to be the only permanent solution for evil, no matter in what form it may seem to exist. The application of this true Christian Science method is quite as safe for the family and the country as it is for the individual, and whenever it is fairly tried it is certainly not without results. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy has written (p. 97): "Those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection." Christian Science is nonpartisan in politics beyond the fact that it always lends support to a righteous government and stands firmly for law and order.
