For the loving care and guidance which brought me into...

For the loving care and guidance which brought me into "the land of Christian Science, where," as our revered and gracious Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has said, "fetters fall and the rights of man are fully known and acknowledged" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 226, 227), I can never adequately express my gratitude.

For over eleven years I have relied entirely upon Christian Science for help, and in that time the physical healings have been many—far more than I could take space to tell. At the time I turned to Christian Science for help I was almost a nervous wreck; I was in bondage to headaches, neuralgia, and colds, and was discouraged and unhappy most of the time. These conditions have been yielding slowly, but surely, to the gentle ministrations of Christian Science; and I am most grateful that the way has been step by step, "here a little, and there a little," for it has made of me a better Christian and a better Scientist.

At one time I suffered from a severe case of pneumonia, when for six days and nights there seemed to be very little relief from the intense suffering. On the evening of the sixth day, shortly after the faithful practitioner, who had called each afternoon to see me, had left, I fell into a restful sleep, and awoke in a little while perfectly free from all suffering. During this experience I seemed unable to do any reading for myself, and for the first few days there was a deep sense of injustice and rebellion in my thought, and I did not seem to care what the end might be. Then it occurred to me that since I was the first member of my family to accept Christian Science,—that is, to rely entirely upon it for healing,—and had been instrumental in getting other members of my family to do likewise, it certainly was incumbent upon me to prove my loyalty to the teachings which I knew to be true. Then in humble gratitude to God I was able honestly to say, "Not my will, but thine, be done;" and from that time on I was conscious of the presence of divine Mind. The statement from Science and Health (p. 361), "As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being," came to me, and I knew this truth would bring a perfect sense of healing. I wish to say that following this healing experience there was a great sense of progress not only for myself but for other members of my family.
