The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Copenhagen, Denmark (Society).

Lecturer: Miss Margaret Murney Glenn; introduced by Mrs. Frances Pugh, who said:—

Mary Baker Eddy reestablished the connection between health and Christianity when, in the year 1866, she discovered the Principle of divine healing, which she explained to the world in Christian Science. This connection was taught by Jesus of Nazareth and recognized by the early Christians. Nine years after her discovery of this healing, divine Principle, Mrs. Eddy published the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" and still later she founded The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. Since that time millions of hopeless, weary sufferers have turned to Christian Science for healing when the regularly accepted systems of medicine had proved of no avail. Twenty-old years ago, a minister of one of the orthodox churches, in commenting upon the unprecedented growth of Christian Science, said, "Christian Science is robbing the churches." This was replied to by a Christian Scientist in the words, "Christian Science is not robbing the churches, but the churchyards." And this statement, which was true about twenty years ago, is none the less true to-day; for a large percentage of those who turn to the study of Christian Science are persons who have been given up to die.
