"In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." So writes our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 372 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." As this passage appeared in my day's reading, there came the question, Does not a long withholding of this "just acknowledgment" almost constitute a denial? I knew at once that it was time to enlarge the borders wherein my gratitude to God and to our Leader should find expression. I realized it was not enough that such expression had been given in our Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and was implied by regular attendance at church services and joyful participation in church activities—there should be actual acknowledgment through all the channels so lovingly provided for us.
When Christian Science was introduced into our home through the healing of my wife, who had been for many years an invalid, it found me without a church home and with no particular desire to have one. While I believed that there was a God, my concept of Him was such that I did not care to "meet Him." This concept was based, of course, upon the mythology of false theology, and it inspired much more of fear or dread than of love. I am very grateful that this condition of thought was quickly healed, and that I found God, the true God, the God who is Love, of whom Jesus spoke when he said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God." This new concept of God was sufficient to heal completely the sense of grief which might have followed the passing of father, mother, and sisters, all within a few years.
My lack of desire for a church home was also met through the right concept of God. I wanted to be a church member. The granting of this privilege brought further and wonderful blessings. I am truly most grateful for the church activities and the opportunities given me to share in them. The privilege of teaching in the Sunday school has given me responsibilities which have borne fruit in added blessings. The work of ushering at the services has demanded study and thought, and has also added to the store of good that must be acknowledged.
