"Truth's eternal day"

The human mind, so called, with its beliefs in a yesterday and a to-morrow, is prone to forget that one lives only in the present. As a result, it burdens to-day with the evils of a so-called past, or dulls its outlook by expecting trouble in the future. It punishes itself by accumulating evil rather than good, or by accepting evil as well as good as a permanent possession. Being ignorant of itself, it does not see the fallacy of its reasoning until enlightened through the study of Christian Science. Then it learns that, as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 584), "Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day."

If God's day, then, is the unfolding of good, can this day ever reveal any element of evil? Nay; the attributes of God are goodness, love, patience, understanding, intelligence, life, truth, peace, joy, purity, spirituality! These constitute the light of day as revealed in Christian Science. Says the prophet Isaiah: "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?" Now this "new thing" is God's perfect creation, known to us. Now are we conscious of God's day, the continual unfolding of good. When we learn this, we are not likely to burden ourselves with the problems of yesterday.

Some one may say, The problem that bothered me yesterday seems to have returned or to be with me still. Nay; it is not the same problem! Says Nahum: "What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time." It may look, to human sense, like the same problem, for mortal mind claims to repeat itself; in fact, it has been repeating itself apparently for some time, going round and round in its little finite circle; it even claims to be infinite, and would call itself "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." But as evil is in reality nothing, and as its claim of yesterday was weakened or destroyed by your knowledge and affirmation of Truth, it would like to deceive you still, through suggestion or a belief of mortal memory, into thinking that it had not been routed yesterday. However, the light which overcame the seeming darkness of yesterday is yours to-day, and is all we carry with us into to-day. Thus you have the good of yesterday, supplemented by the enlightenment of to-day, to rout the seeming claim in its more subtle phase.
