I should like to add my testimony to the many helpful...

I should like to add my testimony to the many helpful ones that I have read, and to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has been to me and is doing for me. Some five years ago it came to me in a time of great need and filled a blank in my life; it showed me the way out of sorrow. The first thing that appealed to me the the Christian Science service at church was the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, as given by Mrs. Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 16, 17). The realization that God is my Father-Mother, and that He does not send affliction and death, was a great comfort. And I am grateful for the continual unfoldment, the looking forward and the striving for more of good; and the overcoming of each problem as it comes along only serves to lift one higher. We should glory in our infirmities, as Paul says, when we know they can be overcome by Truth.

I have also been helped physically. My first healing was almost instantaneous, through the loving help of a practitioner. It was of cramp in my feet, from which I had suffered almost every night for two winters through lack of circulation. I have also overcome constipation, biliousness, sick headaches, nervous indigestion, sciatica, and colds. Once, after I had been in Science a short time, I wondered whether, if I had a protracted illness, I should be able to hold on to the truth or should want to return to materia medica. Shortly afterwards I was put to the test, with an abscess on the jaw that seemed slow to yield to Truth. The jaw became so set I could barely open my mouth and could take only liquid foods. There was one thing for which I should have been grateful and that was that I suffered very little pain; but I know now that I did not think of it then or have a very clear thought—it all seemed too real. THe abscess broke, then formed again, and was followed by erysipelas on my head; but with the help of a practitioner and encouragement of friends I was able to hold on to the truth and prove that Love does heal. In two months I was free, and for this experience I am very grateful.

Soon after this my hair began to come out until I had hardly any left. One day I was tempted to go to a scalp specialist, but, taking up a Christian Science Sentinel I read Mrs. Eddy's words from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 171), "Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts." That changed my thought, and soon afterwards my hair stopped coming out. Now I have more than I have had for some years.
