I should like to express my deep gratitude for even a slight understanding of Christian Science. Our three children and I have had many healings, earache, toothache, sore throat, mumps, measles, and influenza having been overcome.
I should like to tell of a healing of the last-named disease. It seemed very serious, and I was in bed four weeks. My left leg was left in a terrible condition,—swollen to twice its normal size, black, and very painful. For six weeks I was not able to walk, but with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner this condition was overcome. My hair had to be cut off, and it all came out until I was almost bald; but the hair has come in thicker and finer, and is now almost as long as before. My children had such loving protection during this time. The eldest boy seemed to be rather ill for a week or more, but the others recovered quickly. Words cannot express my gratitude to God for this beautiful healing.
Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 376), "Destroy fear, and you end fever." I had proof of this a few weeks ago. My small daughter, who attends kindergarten, came home saying that the school nurse was to examine them the next week. She seemed quite excited, and said she was afraid to go back to school. I really did not think much about it, and said, "Oh, the nurse won't hurt you;" but all that week she cried whenever she had to go to school and developed a high fever. She did not seem ill and continued going to school; but she was very hot and uncomfortable. All of a sudden it dawned on me that the child was afraid of the examination and that the fear was causing this fever. I told her she would not have to go to school the next day, and in about two hours she was entirely free from the fever. I had her excused from the medical examination, and she had no more trouble.
