Words cannot express my gratitude for all the benefits...
Words cannot express my gratitude for all the benefits I have derived through the study of Christian Science. During my childhood I was taught to love God, and attended church as often as three times on Sunday. In our home the Bible was read every night; and after that there was family prayer. I grew up in this atmosphere, but was not satisfied with what the religion offered me; and after my father passed on I seemed to wander away from God and neglected my church duties.
I was led to return from Washington, District of Columbia, to my home in Iowa, and stopped off at various places to see friends. While in East Orange, New Jersey, I visited a lady, but did not know that she was interested in Christian Science until I reached her home. She taught me "the scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I had occasion to use it later on in my journey. At Niagara Falls I met another Scientist, who told me of the wonderful things Christian Science had done for her; and these strengthened my faith. While in Chicago I got lost, and truly God led me into a Christian Science Reading Room. There I was given some copies of The Christian Science Monitor and the Christian Science Sentinel, which I read on the train. A man sitting beside me informed me that he was studying Christian Science, and was just returning from The Mother Church in Boston. I am profoundly grateful to God for His loving and protecting care all along the way.
I wish to tell of a healing which occurred after I had been studying Christian Science about four years. To mortal sense I was suffering from internal hemorrhages and sometimes lost as much as a pint of blood at a time. There seemed to be no suffering, but I felt weak and despondent. I thought that I could handle the case myself, but my condition grew worse; so I called to see a practitioner, who took up the work for me. She worked diligently and faithfully for me for a few days, and then one morning she told me to get up and dress and make the effort to go to my place of business. By noon I was able to do this, and to work the rest of the day. A short time after that, I awoke one morning entirely healed. I was so uplifted that I went to the friends with whom I was living and told them how I felt, and they rejoiced with me. To the practitioner who helped me through this crisis, I am most grateful. Only those who have been in the depths of despair can realize my joy and gratitude when this mist of materiality rolled away.
