My attention has been drawn to your issue of recent date in which an evangelist impartially thrusts aside the religious opinions of all others in maintaining the soundness of his own. This is a big undertaking, considering that in America alone there are between two and three hundred different religious denominations basing their beliefs on the interpretation of Scripture. The truth that makes free seems to be, under such conditions, essentially needed. Truth, exact demonstrable knowledge or Science, is uninfluenced by pro or con opinions. It stands on demonstrable results, immovable in the storms of contending opinion. The Science of Christianity, like all science, must stand such a test.

The evangelist, in his expression "such latter delusions as Christian Science," did not apparently realize the significance of the word "Science." Christian Science, for over half a century in its phenomenal world-wide growth, by doing, not saying, by works and not words, has been proving that Christ's Christianity is as full a salvation to-day from sin, disease, and sickness as it was in the first three centuries. Go ye forth, "preach the gospel," and "heal the sick," is Jesus' standard of service. He, his disciples, apostles, and the early Christians, did more than preach; they did the will of the Father, whom David declared "healeth all thy diseases." Since healing the sick is alone possible to those having the spiritual, Christlike qualities,—the Mind of Christ,—such works are necessarily the proof of spiritual growth, and are the best possible evidence of Immanuel or "God with us." In the material turmoil of to-day, few will deny the great need of rest for the weary and heavy-laden. The distress and sickness resulting from these heavy mental burdens must necessarily be lifted, too, before the rest which Christ Jesus preached and exemplified can come. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 328, 329) : "Jesus' promise is perpetual. ... As time moves on, the healing elements of pure Christianity will be fairly dealt with; they will be sought and taught, and will glow in all the grandeur of universal goodness."
