As I have been greatly encouraged by reading the testimonies...

As I have been greatly encouraged by reading the testimonies in our periodicals, I desire very much to add my own testimony to express my deep gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. I wish also to express my earnest appreciation for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and for the consecration to God which enabled her to bring forth so much wisdom and understanding that the whole world is becoming her debtor.

Before I first heard of Christian Science, I was very ungrateful. I could not see anything to live for. Good seemed so helpless, and evil triumphant every time. I had left my native home in Copenhagen, Denmark, and had come to Boston to live. I was very homesick, but too proud to admit it to my people; and I had almost decided to end my existence, when a dear friend spoke to me of Christian Science. I immediately bought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and started to read it. I had been only a very short time in this country and had little knowledge of the English language; but I could read the book; and with no other aid I was healed of the homesickness and of kidney trouble of long standing. I shall never forget the spiritual uplift that came to me. This healing took place a number of years ago. Since then Christian Science has been my sole method of supply for every need; and when I have honestly and earnestly applied it to my problems, it has never failed.

I am trying to express my gratitude to God for Christian Science and for our beloved Leader by consecration to the work of nursing and comforting others as I have been comforted. I am deeply grateful for our periodicals, including the Monitor, which is indeed a world newspaper, broadening our concept of our fellow-men. I am especially grateful for the Rules and By-laws in our Church Manual, which, Mrs. Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 148), "will do for the race what absolute doctrines destined for future generations might not accomplish."
