To many who are unfamiliar with Christian Science...
To many who are unfamiliar with Christian Science teaching, the thought of turning to it for relief from financial difficulties does not occur, although they will turn to it for physical healing. At this time, when the world seems to be greatly disturbed over lack of employment or means whereby to meet living expenses, I should like to speak of my own experience and of what Christian Science has done for me.
For several years I had been a student of Christian Science and had used my understanding of its teachings in all difficulties that had arisen, but the time came when I had to prove that substance is spiritual, and that, as our Leader tells us in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Without warning I suddenly found myself placed in the position whereby I should have to supply the means of sustenance for two small children and myself. To one who had never known or thought of the affairs of the business world, and to whom commercial occupation seemed a great undertaking, the problem seemed almost overwhelming. At the time when this problem confronted me I was pleasantly located and was happy with church work in one of the branch churches of Christian Science. I felt that I was in my right place and was assisting in whatever way I could with the work there.
When it became certain that I must find employment at once, I knew not where to turn or what I could do. At that time there seemed to be no opening for one without experience, and there was no opportunity to prepare myself for any line of work. I was convinced that human reasoning could not solve the problem, and that there was no help to be had except through reliance upon God. Knowing that I should be directed what to do, I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to help me. At once an answer came, and not only the assurance that the mental work would be taken up for me at once, but also the offer of a position that I could have at once in a line of work that would not require previous experience. The salary was sufficient to meet our present needs, and transportation would be furnished my children and myself. In less than two weeks I was located in my new home and found my work congenial.
