Feeling it a duty, as well as a privilege, I add my testimony...
Feeling it a duty, as well as a privilege, I add my testimony to the many that have already been given. I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing for myself. Although both of our children were born under Christian Science treatment, I never studied the subject; and having tried many remedies, health resorts and so on, we finally decided to travel by wagon to seek health. This also failed. We did not find health in the wagon or in the climate, but in the truth. My husband had been a semi-invalid for more than twelve years; and in half an hour after Christian Science treatment was asked for, he was a new person. Yet I did not take up the study, although I attended services regularly and placed the children in the Christian Science Sunday School. My husband became so absorbed in the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy that I resented it at first. Then, wondering what he had found, I began to read; but many times after reading a while I felt like discarding the books because I thought I did not understand. However, I continued reading until I saw I was gaining ground.
How happy I was when I found I could demonstrate the truth! I remember my first attempt at what seemed like a real problem. My daughter and I crocheted while traveling; and one day the wagon dropped into a rut, forcing the crochet hook into my daughter's finger. She tried to release it but could not, so she came to me for help. I took her hand in one of mine, letting the hook rest in my other, and, closing my eyes, I began repeating the "scientific statement of being" as given on page 468 of Science and Health. I had scarcely started when the hook end dropped into my hand, leaving her free.
Another healing was that of our son, who had suffered, sometimes intensely, from a dislocated hip joint which a physician said might have been caused by a fall or perhaps a diseased condition, possibly inherited. There appeared to be two hip joints, and one leg was about two inches shorter than the other, making it impossible for him to run and play like other schoolboys. But with the help of loving and faithful Christian Science practitioners this condition was overcome.
