My attention has been called to a recent editorial in your paper under the heading, "What Hurts?" Kindly permit me to say that the "theory, belief, or philosophy" of the "ignorant seaman" referred to has no kinship whatever to Christian Science. If a simple denial of the existence of pain was always effective, then there is no reason why any one should suffer. Christian Science, however, declares that God did not create pain and disease; otherwise, they would be eternal. Therefore, they must be a seeming product of so-called mortal mind. The Bible states distinctly that the "carnal mind" is "enmity against God." If, on the basis of an understanding of God and His creation, Christian Scientists are able to destroy the seeming reality of pain and disease, then they have a reason for the faith that is in them.
