For years before I came to Christian Science I was a student...
For years before I came to Christian Science I was a student of the Bible, but could not understand its true meaning, although I longed to do so. When I came to Christian Science over four years ago I was in a wretched state, both in mind and in body. I felt as though I had no place anywhere, and longed to leave this earth. I was suffering from a complication of diseases for which the doctors could give me no relief. I was supposed to have been delicate from the time I had measles as a child, and in consequence I suffered continually from pain in the ears and at the back of my eyes. I was continually under the care of doctors, but seemed to grow worse all the time. Added to this I suffered from gastritis, which at times caused me the most intense pain; and many times I had to starve myself for days at a time. I also suffered from hemorrhoids and from neuritis of the heart, which I think the doctor considered most serious, and which he told me would never be cured.
One evening at the request of a friend I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, after which I borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As soon as I started to read that book I felt I had found the "pearl of great price." I continued to read, and was scarcely able to put the book down. One by one my troubles left me as the truth of Christian Science dawned on my thought. To-day I am perfectly strong and healthy, with not a trace of any of these difficulties. All unhappiness has left me, and in its place I am learning to find the new heaven and new earth; for the Bible has been made clear to me, and I am learning to know God as Love. I am truly grateful to Mrs. Eddy.
