The true Christian Scientist is not a fanatic nor a lawbreaker

Tolerance

The true Christian Scientist is not a fanatic nor a lawbreaker. It is a mistake for our critic to presume to state that a Christian Scientist is not expected to recognize the laws of the land. He is taught to respect and obey the Constitution, and he finds "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" in his religion; but a Christian Scientist would not be obedient to the tenets of his church were he to judge or condemn the religious opinions or actions of others. I submit a pertinent line from Mrs. Eddy's writings, a statement which furnishes a rule of conduct for all Christian Scientists and which contains a complete refutation of the disparaging remarks made in the foregoing article, "A genuine Christian Scientist loves Protestant and Catholic, D.D. and M.D.,—loves all who love God, good; and he loves his enemies" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 4).
