"Abide in me"

Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave us the priceless gift of The Mother Church; and it is the duty and privilege of each member of this church to abide in it,—the vine. It is also the duty and privilege of each member to support loyally all of its activities, for The Mother Church typifies the church triumphant. In John's gospel we read: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me ... if a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered." Now we know that Jesus meant that we should abide in the truth that he lived and practiced until we too should be able to partake of the marriage feast of the Lamb, and should behold the Lamb's wife, which is the church triumphant.

All true Christian Scientists who are members of The Mother Church, or of one of its branches, are striving to their highest understanding to obey its Manual and live up to the teachings of their textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Our Leader gave us the By-laws contained in the Manual after being assured of the necessity for each one of them. And we find therein a guide for all the activities of The Mother Church and its branches.

As we gain a larger understanding of the great truths revealed to us through the study of our textbook, we become lovingly obedient to our Leader's writings, and begin to see what her life means to the world. Christian Scientists daily express their gratitude for the blessings that come to them through obedience to the divine Principle taught them in the writings of our Leader, and they are daily proving that the leaves of the tree are "for the healing of the nations."
