The Christian Science practitioner is forbidden to use a formula of any kind. Neither mere words, nor faith in them, can possibly be the divine agent for relief from any form of discord, and the mere repetition of beautiful sentiments is so readily converted into a species of suggestion that it should be easily seen that such a procedure is not identical with the method divinely authorized by Christ Jesus, and practiced in Christian Science. Only as we realize spiritually man's relationship to God, and our thoughts become more and more unfettered by mere human doctrine and dogma, can the sinning and sick be really healed. Hence the stupendous work before mankind and the great need for patience with one another as we strive, according to our light, to make our lives conform to the perfect ideal. Human thought has degrees of perfection calculated from human standards of excellence. The Science of Life cannot be vitiated by temporal beliefs nor contaminated by mundane theories.
