It is now nearly six years since Christian Science came into my life, or, more correctly speaking, into our lives; for in a wonderful manner both my dear wife and I were brought simultaneously, but in different ways, to a knowledge of Truth in Christian Science.

For many years my health had been indifferent, owing to internal disorders. Three times operations for growths had been performed; and the ominous description "tubercular" was applied to me. However, I struggled on, though life for me was often a drab business, owing to frequent violent headaches.

During the war I was in charge of censorship work, necessitating a staff of linguists. One of the staff was a Dane, and towards the close of the war he became very ill with what the doctors called hemorrhage and consumption. I had to arrange matters to relieve him for several months, so that he might go to another climate. When he came back, the doctors decided that he should go into a sanatorium for consumptives, but he had to wait a few days for a vacant bed. Before the time had elapsed, however, he came back to work, for which I was very thankful, thinking mainly of the work. He told me he had no intention of going to the sanatorium, but had discovered that his healing would come through a study of Christian Science. I was mildly interested; but as day succeeded day and he continued at work, obviously improving in health, it began to dawn on me that here was some power of which I had no knowledge. After some further conversation, he directed me to a local Christian Science practitioner, whom I visited.
