A time came when I had to give up my life's ambition...
A time came when I had to give up my life's ambition, namely, the education of my two daughters. The spirit in me was broken, and I saw business failure-in front of me. Then I began to go to the Christian Science church on Wednesday evenings. I went several times before I seemed to receive any help. Then some one said he had found that loss was gain. At once I knew this truth was what I needed; and as that thought came to me, this one followed: If I gave up everything, I still had my girls; and they were well, and able to take care of themselves; and that was enough to be grateful for. I had two treatments from a practitioner, and then went to another city. It was wonderful how well I got along; but I did not then take up the study of Christian Science.
Eighteen months later a young lady then living with me, and as dear to me as my own children, turned to Christian Science for healing. While I was willing to use Christian Science in business, I still took medicine. But when I saw that this material dependence on my part might in some way hinder her healing I decided that whatever I might suffer I would not take a material remedy again, if only she could be healed. I never had another pain. I had taken physic every day for years, and although I had other abdominal trouble, there was never after that a need for medicine. All my diseases had vanished, and I felt as light as air. I was completely healed physically; also of all belief in drugs.
Soon afterwards I took up the study of Christian Science; and I am more grateful every day for the spiritual understanding I have gained of the Bible and for many other blessings that have come into my life. I have always found, under all circumstances, that as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." The daughter whose education had been so great a struggle for me took up the study of Christian Science also, and has had class instruction. This has been so wonderful to me; for when I took my hand off the ark, she then took up the highest education in the world.
