Like many others, I began the study of Christian Science...
Like many others, I began the study of Christian Science only as a last resort, after all material means had failed; and I was healed of a disease which was diagnosed by reputable surgeons as tuberculosis of the spine. The diagnosis included an X-ray photograph, which seemed to show that a section of the spine was gone. I have since learned that the physical healing is but a part of the making over: the healing comes with joy and gratitude and spiritual uplifting, which naturally and inevitably follow the correct application of the rule of Christian Science. It is nearly two years since I was entirely healed of this disease; and in the meantime I have also got rid of a number of minor ailments, as well as of the desire for tobacco, which held me in bondage for over thirty years. I thank God! The earnest study of the Bible in connection with our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which so beautifully illumines its sacred pages, has given my life a purpose. Here is the "pearl of great price,"—the way out of self to complete salvation from sin, disease, and death.
Words can never express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for teaching me to love Christ Jesus and for causing me to want to follow him.
Hamilton Coleman, Chicago, Illinois.
