Christian Scientists do not worship Mary Baker Eddy in...
Journal
Christian Scientists do not worship Mary Baker Eddy in any sense; but they love, revere, and respect her, because she devoted her life to a religious movement which has brought health and happiness to unnumbered thousands. It can safely be said that the majority of Christian Scientists have received proof of the healing efficacy of their religion; and this being true, they certainly cannot be charge with being credulous. Proof is most desirable with respect to the availability of the Master's teachings, who commanded that his followers do the works that he did; and this command includes the healing of the sick. Christian Scientists believe in the reality of Spirit, because both matter and Spirit cannot be real; the one is temporal, whereas the other is eternal. Christian Scientists should not be criticized for believing in the unreality of matter and the eternality of Spirit, when their belief is in full accord with the teachings of the Bible. It is set forth in the fourth chapter of II Corinthians: "The things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
